Becket Broadband subscribers will be able to install home monitoring equipment for different purposes, connecting it to the Internet via your home’s fiber network connection. Cameras can be installed to remotely monitor inside or outside. Your heat and/or air conditioning can be controlled remotely. Sensors may be installed to alert you if your heat is not working or if there is a water leak. Home alarm and medical alert monitoring services are available as well.
This equipment is not available through nor installed by Becket Broadband, WiredWest, or Whip City Fiber. Such equipment, its installation, and corresponding subscription services are available through any of several area companies
Will my existing landline alarm system or medical alert system work over digital phone or Internet?
Although our digital phone or broadband Internet services may not be appropriate for your current alarm or medical alert system, you have multiple options: check with your provider(s) to see if your current system(s) will work over digital (VoIP) telephone, keep your Verizon landline for this/these systems, upgrade to a cellular-based system(s) if you are in an area with reliable cell service, or upgrade to an Internet-based system(s).
Both cellular- and Internet-based alarm and medical alert systems enable your monitoring service to monitor in real-time. Some alarm services offer a smartphone app that enables you to check on your home yourself. We recommend that you contact your alarm and/or medical alert monitoring provider(s) and ask about options. Note that Whip City Fiber cannot provide technical support for these services. You'll want to speak with these service providers directly.
To keep things running during a power outage, you will need a battery backup for your alarm and/or medical alert system(s), the Ooma Telo base, Wi-Fi router, and ONT (Optical Network Terminal—the box mounted on the wall that the router plugs into). To keep these devices powered longer than the life of your battery backup, you will need to have another backup system in place like a home battery or generator connected to your home’s electrical service.
