Open Space and Recreation Plan Advisory Committee

In 1989 the Town of Becket produced its first Open Space and Recreation Plan (OSRP) with updates in 1998 and in 2006. The plans address issues of resource protection, conservation of lands and historic structures and future open space and recreational opportunities. The community identified open space planning as important to the protecting the character of the town.

The Draft Open Space and Recreation Plan is posted here for public review March 13-31, 2023.  We invite you to review the plan and send your thoughts and comments to us.  If your time is limited, we encourage you to focus your attention to Sections 7-9 of the draft plan.  These sections describe the major findings and recommendations that emerged from the planning process.  Paper copies of the draft plan will also be placed at Town Hall and the Becket Athenaeum for review March 17-31.  Please send your comments to the Town's consults, Lauren Gaherty at lauren@berkshireplanning.org

This draft plan identifies existing resources and describes key trends and issues regarding open space, conservation and outdoor recreation.  Becket can use this document to guide growth in a manner consistent with open space preservation tenets while addressing the necessity of future development.

The Open Space and Recreation Plan Advisory Committee will be disbanded when the Plan has been completed and approved.
