Town of Becket Finance Committee
Minutes for March 20, 2008
Present: Mike Falk, Ann Spadafora, Steve LaBelle, Amy Fyden
Absent: Jeremy Dunn
Also present: Richard Furlong
The meeting was called to order at 7.10 p.m.
1. Minutes for meetings of March 6 and March 13 were not available.
2. Transfers from Reserve Fund: $687.00 - to fund Unemployment Account
$864.72 - for Outreach Program (overdrawn)
Balance remaining in Reserve Fund - $9,426.96
($12,000 was approved at the Annual Town Mtg in 2007)
3. Yokum Pond Bridge update: Selectman had voted to place this on the ballot
as a debt-excluded item being approximately
$230,000, as a repair/replacement for Fiscal 2009.
(This would be approximately .50c on the tax rate for
one year or .25c for two years).
4. Review of Warrant for ATM: No changes this week. Richard advised the committee:
- that the Winter Roads Account would be about $60,000
overdrawn.
- the Fuel Account would be overdrawn about $20,000 by
July 1, 2008.
- the overdrawn amount for utilities is unkown at present.
- Tax Title Account is approximately $20,000 overdrawn.
- The CBRSD budget will probably pass unless voted
down by three of the seven towns.
5. The Highway Superintendent, Len Tisdale, was unable to be present due to family
concerns. He will present his proposal for the Highway Dept later.
6. Free Cash Certification update: Rick will meet with the Treasurer on Friday.
7. Discussion on elected v. appointed Treasure and Tax Collector positions.
8. Mike reported meeting with Town employees on health premiums. Most towns pay
75% - Becket currently pays 80% therefore an increase of 5% by the employees would
be implemented over two years. Mike felt it was a productive meeting.
9. Public input - no persons present.
Meeting was adjourned at 7.50 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Ann G. Spadafora
