Town of Becket Finance Committee
March 13, 2008 Minutes

The meeting was called to order at 7:08pm.
1. Minutes of March 6th – Approved
2. Discussion regarding salary requests – At the employees request it was asked if we could revisit the employee survey that was done a few years back. Some concerns were regarding fairness, length of service, performance and where that employee should be in their salary range. FinCom response is that we do not have enough time or money available to address this issue in this year’s budget but will review their request for the following year. It was also stated that FinCom only makes recommendations and it is the select board that will make the final decision.
3. Elected vs. Appointed - Treasurer and Tax Collector positions – last year the public turned it down. FinCom would like to bring it back to the table and a list has been made on all the pros and cons. Discussion: How can we help? Are there limitations? How can we educate the public? Suggestions: Web Site, Letter to the editor.
4. Review w/ Town Employees regarding health care premium – 1 select board member and 2 FinCom members : Meeting - TBD
5. Free Cash Certification - undetermined
6. Audit Status – ongoing
7. Transfers from reserve fund – None
8. Update on Yokum Pond Bridge repair – a. still being designed. b. Bid this spring.
c. Best est. $170K- $230K d. look at debt exclusion.
9. Review the latest 2009 Warrant – most line items were completed.
Reviewed salary range: it was stated that we cannot go over the max point.
Reviewed school budget – April 3rd Dr. Harlan will attend FinCom meeting.
10. Schedule this rest of 2008 FinCom meeting.
There was no public input.
Meeting was adjourned at 9:04 pm.
